New to Calorie Deficit

Ok let’s talk about calorie deficit…

First and foremost deficit should be very short term and most of your life should be spent living at maintenance calories. The more you diet the less likely you will respond to deficit calories when you need to.

Since your deficit should be short term make sure you take it serious and are ready to commit. Get your results and get the hell out.

How? Make sure your deficit is reasonable and attainable. If you are on plan 5 days a week and off 1-2days a week that likely will negate the 5 days on! It is about the WHOLE week. If you can’t adhere to your numbers 7 days a week then they are too aggressive.

Be smart about your food choices.
We are looking for the most bang for your buck while in deficit...protein, whole grains, veggies. Sure many things can “FIT” your macros but the question is if they should? I would rather eat a huge grilled chicken salad with a ton of veggies versus 1 piece of pizza while in deficit. Foods like that are a big hit to macros and very unlikely the amount that “fits” will be very satisfying. You will quickly be looking for more food and that could mean now going over...for 1 piece of pizza? Not worth it to me! This includes alcohol 🍺 🍷!! We honestly should not be trading food for alcohol when our calories are already SO low!!

So again keep your eye on the prize. Deficit is not meant to be forever. But the quicker you can get results and get out the sooner you can start to have a little more food freedom. My last deficit (over 2 yrs ago!!) was 5 wks. No off days, consistent and short!! And then UP goes your calories in a reverse to maintenance (more food). Would you rather be on and off this for months or be done in weeks?

And finally...stay hydrated!! 💦
So many people think they are hungry when they really are just dehydrated! You need WAY more water than you think! Especially if you are breaking a sweat in your workouts!! Water has so many benefits but you will feel more satiated if well hydrated and it’s easy to do if bored instead of running to pantry.

Hope this helps! Let me know! Hope you have a great day! ❤️SC
