Thoughts about the scale

Why I don’t “weigh in”? I get asked this all the time. Since I’ve been in maintenance I step on the scale about every 3-4 months?? or if I feel concerned I’m losing weight. If you are in a state of building muscle, the number really means nothing. The reason many enter maintenance is to gain muscle, so there will be a scale shift if you are doing it right. I get messages from clients and followers who are reversing panicking over 1-2 lbs of weight gain on scale. The number on the scale is ONE piece of data and it means the least to me. Just the simple fact that if you are eating more (maintenance macros/reversing) you will have more food contents in your body at certain times during the day and you are going weigh more with that alone. This is not fat! This is food/water

I’m roughly 7lbs heavier than when I came out of deficit. Watching the scale rise means nothing. Do I slash calories and go back into deficit because I’m up in weight? NO. My clothing fits the same and my measurements are actually smaller because muscle is more dense than fat and takes up less space

So yes the scale is a nice tool during the fat loss stage, BUT it doesn’t tell the whole story. It’s the quickest option we can measure day to day, but again it isn’t everything. My weight shifts around a 3lb radius based off high carb days, water intake, bowel movements, sleep, stress. Look at your body measurements, clothing fit, comparing before pics. I can’t tell you how many times I have clients holding onto weight in beginning but then they look at measurements or pics and are like WOW. The big picture is where it is at....How do you feel?! If you are at some magical goal weight, but feel like crap how is that worth it?? That’s not for me. So please understand the number is just a small piece of the puzzle, if it bothers you to see fluctuations then maybe it’s time to step away from it a bit. The scale used to bug me sometimes or make me over analyze too, so I just don’t do it anymore unless I’m concerned.
So of course, you do what works for you. This is supposed to be an uplifting journey, not one that causes negative energy. ❤️SC
