What are macros?
What are MACROS?? Short for Macronutrients...they are the 3 basic components of every diet-carbohydrates, protein and fat. “Following macros” or “counting macros” refers to eating a certain amount of these types foods each day. Your numbers should be unique to YOU. No one should have same macros as you unless they have exact same stats. They are based off your age, height, weight, body type, activity and fitness goals
Total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) is determined and from there you consume calories in deficit if want to lose and in surplus if want to gain. The calories are broken down into ratios (determined by a coach) and you eat certain percentage of carbs, protein, and fat a day
You must track every food you eat in an app like @Myfitnesspal . These apps keep a running total of amount of calories you consume along with the macro breakdown. So by end of day your goal is to eat foods that meet your macros
So a brief example..a 40yr old athletic female weighing 132lbs, 5’5” with goal of losing fat. Macros were set at 1751 calories a day (carbs 194 grams, protein 120g, fat 55g) So her goal is to come as close to eating as close to those numbers as possible. Focusing on high protein, lower fat foods with moderate carbs
The macros may need fine tuned to dial in on goals. That is why it can be helpful to have a coach give recommendations if not getting results you want
I’m getting close to offering long term coaching for you guys! Till then I can give you one time numbers to get you started along with a guide full of info, how to track, and my personal grocery list. These are not meal plans, the beauty of following macros is to learn how make the foods you already love fit your numbers. I’m here for questions! Hope this helps. Been getting questions for a better explanation. Please also check my IGTV and highlight reel for more.❤️SC
